Yes, blog comments works very good. If you comment weblogs with high traffic and you are first or second commenter you can expect decent number of clicks.

If you comment only for SEO purposes make sure that the blog has do-follow link. Many weblogs has nofollow links which are not counted by the search engines.

It's important not to be too "spammy" with your blog posts though. Personally If I recognise somebody is just commenting on my blog to promote their own website, I'll either delete their post, or just remove their website URL from it.

 

Yes, i am agree little bit with you bcoz i take blog commenting as a part of marketing not as a part of link building. If u give gud comment related to blog post and niche then defiantly you get attention of other people and respective blogger and they go through with your site with curiosity to find something interesting. This is the best part of blog commenting but if you do it for link popularity then i wud say u r doing spamming and breaking the rules made by Google and other search engines.

I have been doing blog commenting for quite a while. I just notice that a lot of webmasters now are offering blog commenting service on high PR inner pages at low rate. However, some of them simply delete the post comments after a while, say around a week to a month, in order to keep the OBL on the page low. Then they can attract more buyers to buy the service again. I found it quite annoying when buying blog commenting service for my sites as the investment just turned out to be a waste after some time.
