value of a PR9 link?

no, it's not just one of those hypothetical questions I'm asking for the sake of asking.

I found a PR9 site that looked like they were selling text ads; I'm quite convinced they're not even sure they're a PR9... the price they're asking is way, way below what I would've expected for this.

it's only 300$ a month, and there are only around 20 outbound links on the site. the only catch is that it has to be a link related to "webmaster / internet resources."

is it just me or is the price amazingly impressive?

you could pay for the 300$ a month, set up, say, a webmaster directory, and you'd have an instant PR8. if the directory is crawlable, and most things are just a click or two down, I'd imagine that it'd be very easy to get some recognition and be able to even charge for submissions and easily make money back.

plus advertisements on top of that...

It sounds very interesting. If you don't want the link pass it to me.

Would you not need 3 or 4 PR9 links to get a PR8?

You'd definitely get a PR7 which would still be good for that price.

I'm not sure you would get a PR8 either, but it's still a good link. Make sure it actually passes PageRank.

Like everyone else in the world, I'm curious where it is, but I imagine you would want to keep that kind to yourself. :)

I'll consider letting a few of the regular members here see it if I don't end up optioning it myself- I'm not sure if I'll be able to yet.

I wouldn't want to just give it out in the thread because it'd get a flood of people requesting ads from them and they'd likely jack their prices up.

and interesting enough, it's actually showing a PR10 right now.

from everything I can tell it's passing PR just fine, although some of its inbounds, are, uh, questionable.

how much do you think something like this is worth, though? it just seems like an amazingly good deal to me.

I'm not sure what you consider "regular members" here but, I would be interested in learning more if you decide. :D

Yep, I would be interested as well if you decide to disclose it. I don't buy links, so not something I'm interested in actually pursuing. More curious who they are than anything else.

See my article and chart . It suggests that you need less than 1 PR10 to get a PR8 and depending on the number of outbound links on the page between 1 and 4 links from a PR9. However, if you already had a PR5 or 6, then a single additional PR9 would probably be sufficent to elevate you to PR8.

it'd sort of completely defeat the purpose if I gave out the site's url; there'd be an explosion of interest in advertising quite quickly, and they'd raise their prices.

of the current advertisers that they have, it seems like the PR isn't really as high as we would expect it to be. I'm going to have another look after the next PR update, and probably make any sort of decisions based on that. :)

has anyone ever heard of google not banning the passing of PR, but simply diminishing the value passed? it seems very odd to me.

a PR9 link will generally bring in $1500.00 or better. So if you can get one for $300, I would highly suggest jumping on it.

    Hi,
When you say a site of PR5 etc. does it matter that the page where your link will be put should also be of PR 5. I have backlinks with many sites of PR 4 and above but are not shown as backlinks by Google. Is it cos the page on which they are put have a low PR.

the backlinks search is a sampling of sites that link to you, it's not a full and complete collection of them.

I see that price and I usually think the exact opposite way.

sometimes if it is too good to be true there are problems with it. There are a bunch of high PR links that do not parse any link pop / PageRank through.

quite true, but it is not hard to check some of a sites outbound links to see if the search engines seeing the links from there either.
