I long for the day when Google opens up their auction. eBay fees are ridiculous and bloody expensive. That's not to say that their is a lack of ebay alternative sites. There is plenty of them. The problem is each site never sees the light of day. There are sellers but there are no buyers. If I, a buyer interested in PS3 video games, wanted to shop online why bother with tiny obscure sites when I can find what in the Internet's largest auction house.

Google with their massive brand appeal, deep pockets, and recognizability can be the auction site that is a direct theat to eBay. If and when is this going to happen? Time will tell but I at least hope their are talks about it with codename say, ConquerX.

After all they do have Google checkout, which some say the company is testing the waters to see if people are interested in an additional payment system.

Google is a big enough monopoly already, no thanks.

Besides their customer support is the worst around, do you really want them handling auction disputes?

No, I don't think Google would do well with this. Chrome is not doing well. Many other of their services are very obscure (they basically shut down Froogle, taking a little piece of it and using that as the "leftover") and also don't do too well. So, it wouldn't be a real threat.

Anybody who is fed up with the ebay greed would at least try them out. Whatever the case may be I'm looking forward to it - if it does ever happen.

Flatrox- just curious, what info is wrong?

I would be happy to see google break ebay's monopoly.
Ebay is making lots of money. They even show adsense ads in listings..

I'd happily look at trying out G auctions if they set it up, but they would have to change their customer services practices first.

i agree with the comment about monopolization. there could be an incentive for google to favor its own stuff and really stick it to the little guy.

And believe it or not, i lost a bit of customers. but i have not headache about stupid Limitation, chargebacks etc..

They are Damn Cooler, and Better then paypal. i wish if something like google auction comes to the Market.

If Google created an auction site, I'd be shocked if they had an affiliate program, which means that all EPN users would be dead.

I've heard arguments for and against this. It seems as though they will stay away from it as eBay is advertises heavily with Google and it would a huge loss of income for them.

No, i dont think so. We cant guess how much youtube might have lost till now? And others like orkut.com? But both of these have huge number of loyal users. So thats an investment for the future for google.

That could be the case with auctions. Firstly it can increase usage of google checkout and secondly it can make money for them in many ways.
They can combine analytics with the auctions.

Just imagine if google launches auctions, all the google account holders will be its members. What a start it will be!

Gotta go with that one, at least with ebay there are only 5-6 hoops to jump through when you have a problem. A dispute with Google would take months.

I'd prefer if Google made their algorithms a bit better rather than working on an auction site.
