Joel Comm's 500 Words project

Discussion in 'Link Development' started by Rod, Jun 30, 2006.

Has anyone checked out Internet guru's Joel Comm's 500 words site: http://www.500words.com/

Comm has applied the million pixel concept to words. He has set the limit of 500 words and is inviting people to spend from $50 to over $200 buying words on a single page site. You then link your site to these words based on the suitability of the words to your site.

He claims that apart from the novelty value of someone clicking on a word that will bring traffic to your site the words will act as links to improve your link status with search engines.

Question is: "would any search engine value 500 links from a one-page site as of any relevance at all?"

    What do you think?

I wouldn't do it, I think it's a waste of money. The 'help me make me rich' hype is over and there are too many copycats to receive viralmarketing. milliondollarhomepage received viral visitors like crazy, since it was such a great idea. This 500words things is just milliondollarhomepage#234234325 .

As for the links; no, I don't think search engines will see these 500 links as valuable. They might even see this page as a normal linkfarm, since the links aren't relevant to each other and there is nothing on the page other than links.

I wouldn't bother with it. It's a novelty, nothing more.

Actually, we aren't presenting the site as a search engine play. I don't expect Goog or the others to index. But people enjoy the novelty and the site is getting heavy traffic. As of this posting, 500words.com is #3 on Alexa's movers and shakers.

We can just google for that, for FREE, not even $50 or $200, instead of spending that amount of money into this tricky things, i think it's better use it for link building, link purchase, dir submission, etc.

    Hey everyone,

Since 500words got so much buzz, there are so many sites poping out!

    Here is another one:
    http://www.popular-tags.com

This site has a lot more features, and you can buy and resell your keyword. Which is pretty interesting :)

I found this coupon code ($25 off): njulpromo

his prices on the pages have gone up, I saw this site a few weeks back and his base link prices were very low....now they have gone up crazy lol

any way I think its a stupid thing to invest in ...people will love it for a little while they will be like OMGGGG what it the website URL then after a few weeks when the site seels out it will loose all visitors and people will never go to it aggian so basically the money invested is GONE!

look at million dollard home page as an example at the start of the year it was gettign crazy traffic now look at the dive in traffic lol...its basically gone!

Holy Cow! How'd you stumble upon that coupon code? njulpromo? It's almost like you own that website... naw...

As for 500words, I think this officially calls for an acronym: JAMDHPV. Just Another Million Dollar Homepage Variant.

I think flash in the pan is a better description. It's just a spin on the whole pixel concept. The only person who really benefits is the person selling the links.

People are itching to give $ away though so someone needs to stand up and take it.
