dcristo, depends, do you do that from your wiki account, or by using a proxy ;p I've recently noticed wiki links can bring some decent traffic. E.g. one link I have brings about 20-30 uniques per day!
Master Yoda has his own proxy server - a separate IP to anyone else on the internet. The problem is trying to get the links to stick! With the link bringing you traffic, is it commercial in nature?
yep i do the same since wikipedia already holds most top ranking of all search engines, especially google, so traffic is going to come for sure. When ever i get some quality niche articles written, i always link it to wikipedia. Also sometimes wiki pedia articles are copied [including footer links] by authority sites like, about.com and answers.com, so you could end up getting a powerful contextual and on topic backlink
Yeah they delete all spam links pretty quick, I only add 'good' links so they'll stick. Haven't tracked it deep, so not sure how it converts. They are nofollow, but they still add some value
wikipedia links are no follow for sure, but i still remember one of the articles with my link was copied to answers.com which game me a do follow link. though the link was removed later, from both sites
"oh my god it's zargon from da planet zeecoss" (nice pic dude, great outfit!) I have an account with wiki but most things that are topologically interesting have been written. It's hard to find original material that hasn't. As an alternative I've opened a pbwiki and I'm an active participant there. ROOFIS
I am not Editor but a guy from some security place did a research on how some Wikipedia Editors work, they are all dictators..just like DMOZ mods..
The core philosophy of wiki and other collaborative sites is to exercise neutrality when publishing and not dictatorship. But with all things involved with human nature there's always going to be competition with supervisors and editors alike. ROOFIS
Retaining your link in the wikipedia is the toughest job than adding one. I used to get a lot of traffic from it but the traffic dwindled considerably these days...
