Well I will have to add some more mixed comments:

Access to my account was restored and they had not lost all my emails.

However, they did log me out of my own account for the whole day. I thought I lost that account for good because my password (the correct password) was not working. I have no idea Why that was to this day. That same issue has happened another 2 or 3 times.

I was logged out for the whole day and I could read or reply to some important email plus the panic that I thought I had somehow changed my password and did not remember it.

So not the end of the world, but a very unpleasant situation nonetheless.

I hate Hotmail. I don't know how anybody can use the terrible layout - they have changed it multiple times over the years, it is still as crap as ever. The page always loads slow. The 'spam filters' are appalling - or maybe they just send you spam on purpose. And what are they playing at with 'Windows Live'? MSN, Live, .Net, Hotmail - Can't they just stick with one name, or do they have to change it every day to evade the bad reviews?

I have been using hotmail since 2001. It was slow but not now. Yes I get spam, but not that much. Dont know whether i m lucky with it or not but i m happy with it. And, i think to deny access to a account for sometime due to too much incorrect attempts is a good step.

A neat little hotmail trick I will share. Create tow hotmail accounts and link them together, put all your contacts in one account and most of your spam e-mail will simply go to the account without all of your contacts. Seriously my primary hotmail account has had only 1 spam e-mail in the inbox this week.

But I still like hotmail. It's the first mail I got and I still use it daily for my personal mails and for msn messenger chatting.

This 'new' hotmail just gets worse and worse every ****ing day. Now for me it appears to not only be slow as molassas, but appends some sort of advertising to every one of my outbound e-mails, my account was flooded with bounce e-mails for messages I never sent, they've broken forward/back functionality, and in general thrown javascript at a bunch of shit that not only doesn't need it, but was faster without it. They have taken something I've been happy with and relied on for a decade and turned it into a steaming pile of manure.

    Talk about a miserable /FAIL/.

How do you know they lost all your data? Did you manage to log in and check?
If no, why wouldn't you write to HotMail support?
Maybe because you were involved in some inappropriate activity while using the account, spam etc.? Eh?

Googlemail or Gmail is the way forward in my opinion. Much easier to use online or through an email client using POP3 or IMAP

Another very annoying thing with Hotmail is that sometimes it does not send the emails. I write the email, I press Send and the page reloads as usual but then I find out that the email has not been actually sent. Very strange and Dangerous.

I don't like Ymail because it does not load very well, sometimes I can't read the emails.

Gmail is ok, but I don't like the linked emails chat-like system that they have. Very annoying.

I recently found out that my company has been listed as spam under their mailing list, I've done a spam check on my IP addresses for my servers and they have all shown up as spam free. I think their list is just too strict unlike many other free email providers.
