USA Tax rates for states and zip codes

    Hello!

I need some help... I own an online store for USA and I need a list about which tax is applied on each order to a customer, depending on state and zip code.

I have searched Google with no success... maybe because I'm not a US citizen and I'm a bit lost in this.

Can somebody point me in the right direction please? I need to charge tax in my store as soon as possible.

    Best wishes!

If you are not in the US, and you don't have a business "presence" in the US, you will not need to collect sales tax. It is actually then the responsibility of the customer to report and pay their own sales tax. (Most people don't know this and don't do it, but technically you should.) If you do have a presence in a certain state, then you will need to contact that states sales tax office. For California that is the State Board of Equalization, other states might call it the Department of Revenue. There are probably other names, but if you Google "state" sales tax you should be able to find it.

But like I said, unless you have an office or a sales force in this country you don't need to collect any taxes.

Thank you very much KMP for your answer.

Yes you are right, I don't have to collect taxes, but my provider do, so I'm paying taxes, my customers not and I'm loosing money with every order.

Thank you very much for the keyword to search into Google. I will apply an average tax for each state as found here:

Here's a site that lists sales tax by state: http://www.taxadmin.org/fta/rate/sl_sales.html

I tried to find a list of sales tax by zip code, but I wasn't successful. I did find some sites that let you look it up. If you wanted to get it down to that level, you could parse out this list of zip codes (it's the only complete list I could find). Then use a sales tax lookup to find the sales tax rate for each zip code. If you don't want to do it yourself, I'm sure you could pay someone to do it for you. That way you'd collect more accurate sales taxes. You'd reduce the likelihood of undercollecting and paying out of pocket.

Tahnk you latoya, I have checked your websites and now I have implemented them in my store. Sorry for my customers, but I don-t own a store for losing money.

At the end, I have applied one tax per state. Thank you.

you only pay state tax if you sell the product in the state that you are registered in.

    This is not my case.

I always pay taxes, although I live in Europe.
