It's incredible how many people think that way.

Your average person who isn't a web designer has no clue how much work must be put into SEO and marketing to attract genuine, targeted visitors to a site.

They think that as soon as you put up a good site it'll be first in the SERPs in no time and getting all kinds of traffic.

I recently launched my first site, I find that the majority of the struggle is I get sidetracked and off schedule. The best thing I could have possibly done is come up with schedule for different days and focus on one task at a time. I think a lot of webmasters fall short when it comes to time management.

A typical week for me is -

    Read Sitepoint/DP/niche forums & post. 7 Days a week

Link Building- 3 days a week. 2 hours a day

Article writing and submissions- 5 hours a week. 2-3 Articles w/ submissions

Answer and send emails - 1 hour 7 Days a week

Social Networking- 3 hours a week

Keyword research- 2 hours a week.

This has created at least a work schedule. With time, this will be huge. Do the math for linking and article submissions for one year and you would be surprised.

    156 articles @ 3X a wk
1820 forum posts with signature linkage 35 posts per week.
1040 backlinks from blogs and directory submissions. @ 20 a week.

2860 links. + say 7 anchored text links in articles =1092
    2860+1092 = 3952 inlinks.

This isnt even including the out sourced services I use - That is all just self promoting.

Great advice. Obviously the most important thing is to stick at it and never give up. I know from experience it can get disheartening but I think the rewards at the end of the day are what makes it worthwhile going after.

Creating a business plan is absolutely great advice, if your goal is to make money. It is extremely easy to get discouraged when you just 'try' to make money online without a laid out plan. Also, be prepared to know what to do when you start bringing in traffic and how to increase conversions.

I would suggest better methods than building some philosophy.

Write regularly (If you are Blogger)
    Build backlinks
Write genuine and comparatively new articles.
socialize through forums and web 2.0 sites.

I'm new to internet marketing so please forgive me if this is something I should already know.

I know you need to focus on one thing to begin with, learn it and do it well. How do you know when it is time to branch out and try other/new things?

Start to make money on line is to have #1 a product. It could be yours or somebody elses. (affiliate product) Find a niche you are confortable in, a niche you have interests for or even better where you are an expert. Then you have to set up the whole process (domain name/webpage /sqeeze page + opt-in/ autoresponder/... once the whole process in set in place ... you have to spread the news...
This is one step after the other, don't put the cart before the horse. Go slowly but surely. Do not procrastinate and everyday set up your time to work correctly. Focus your energy and your actions. Do it right. Follow the steps of the successfull persons .. they will teach you and do the same!
    Good luck!

Don't get penalized by Google - that's a big one. Since Google controls over 80% of everything internet you wouldn't want to run afowl of it.

I find that some of the best help comes from top publishers on click bank if your promoting their product they want you to succeed and give you valuable advice on setting up effective marketing campaigns. I went neg one product on my google ppc but kept tweaking and now running positive hopefully things continue to improve definitely not easy but with work can work

We learn only through mistakes, just move on, don't get stuck and stop. Ask around DP for help...

I have just started marketing about a year ago. I own a small ISP and am at wits end dealing with the end user. so hopefully although progress is slow, very slow it is very hard but in the long run I know it will work , as many have said before, nothing worthwhile is easy , if it was everyone would e doing it.

i agree with valuing patience and determination. i recently hopped through several mentoring programs looking for that promised miracle gold. but i realized it doesn't exist. everything takes work and alot of time and effort and for me alot of learning. but i think im on the right track now and i can just focus on what really needs to be done to help grow my business. and these are some good tips. thanks

Your friend did a great job.

Finding an affiliate program that convert is important, when you search enough and take enough action, the god will not let you down...

Btw, could you share more how you make money from the affiliate program you chosen?
