Hi. Me and a friend are starting up a blog, and it's probably going to be quite a high traffic blog, considering we put in the hard work (like we've both vowed to), but anyway, the niche isn't important. Anyway, we're torn between what we want to do for the site: I say a WP blog and my friend says a static site. Personally, I say a blog because it's easier to update, and just think it would suit the project better. My friend, however, thinks that the blog would be easier to navigate for the user and we wouldn't be expected to post every day. My argument for this is that, should we make a static site that updated regularly, people would tune in and think of it as a blog, so we might as well just do a blog. So, what do you think? Static site or WP blog?
make wp blog and install some cache plugins to take care of traffic blog is very easy to maintain and update IMO
Never ever make static websites. It's so easy to develop a blog/CMS template that I really see no point in making a static website if it ever needs to be updated.
This is very true. I don't see why anyone would not use Drupal or Wordpress for their website. If you use a web designer to design a static site, you are held hostage in regards to adding new content. Of course if you can do this yourself it's not too bad but it is just another hassle in my eyes.
BLOG BLOG BLOG. This is the best way to go..especially when you have sooo much seo control with permalinks and URI rewrites and slugs.
Go for blog coz it more easy to maintain and it professional looking compare to static site. Some more, you can use many plugin to drive traffic if you're using wordpress
It's very important to update the site daily... so it would be much easier with Wordpress. However, if that's a difficulty for you, then you can make a static page. But all in all, I'd pick WP.
A wordpress blog in the best option. The search engines love them which is great for rankings. They are extremely easy to update. The plugins and themes available allow you to easily customize your website to your specifications. Almost all the niche sites I set up now are done with Wordpress
Or better yet. Learn nanoc - http://nanoc.stoneship.org/ The best content managment solution when you learn your way around. Pure static html ( you can use php also if you want ). No database, very fast of course, easy to add content, SEO all the way.
Umm... wtf? If you know html, or dreamweaver, you can easily update a static site, and it makes it easier to add custom code to it. If you want a blog, then yeah, use WordPress, but there are reasons you'd want to make a static site too.
Thanks for your reply, don't suppose you could elaborate on the reasons you mentioned? And, everyone else, thanks for all your replies, it's a real help, and I'm 99% sure we'll be going for a WP, so I was right I've repped you all
Wordpress IMO.. It's easy to update, and Google loves Wordpress.. Easy to get good SEO etc with wordpress... I wouldn't even think about a static site.. Wordpress always number 1 Greetz

Hi, I only use to make static sites. But after using wordpress It would be hard to go back. They are just so easy to setup and search engines seem to love them. Plugins used: AddThis Social Bookmarking All in One SEO Pack Cforms FeedBurner FeedSmith Google Analytics for WordPress Top Commentators Widget After that its all gravy.
