PayPal is a joke.

Somebody buys a digital item from my website, receives it and then files an unauthorised transaction case with PayPal. So they take the money back from me and two day later take $10 more saying:

    WTF!?

One of the biggest problems with paypal is how easy it is for people to force unreasonable refunds upon legitimate merchants.

Chargebacks are a real issue with Paypal and intangible goods.

What's even more ridiculous is that Paypal allows chargebacks on donations as well!

Use Money bookers! They don't do chargebacks and protect the seller much more than Paypal. Paypal will always find in favour of the buyer.

"Donations" can also be fraudulently made therefore allowing a dispute on the transaction makes sense.

Your money wouldn't be stuck there for two years if you could provide the necessary information.

If Paypal wants to allow a dispute on Donations and intangibles - fine by me. The only problem is that the system currently in place doesn't accomodate donations and intangibles.

Read about what happened to the guy at SomethingAwful.com when he received $30k in donations for Katrina victims.

    It's ludicrous.

Unbelievable! I don't see how you are liable for Paypal failing to ensure the account wasn't secured!

I think what happened was nothing to do with the account. I can just go buy a digital product, then go to my bank and ask them to reject the payment. I get a refund, keep the product and seller gets charged $10.

There should be a blacklist of paypal addresses you should not be dealing with.

Paypal sucks for dealing with anyone who might chargeback. Too easy for scammers to take advantage of.

    Otherwise its good.

Only service wise paypal is good.

In case of sellers like us which deal with digital products paypal is just nightmare.

Some merchants charge as much as $30 per chargeback. You can negotiate this rate when you sign up as a merchant with most banks/processors. $10 is a pretty low rate for it nonetheless. But it sucks when it is more than the total value of the sale.
