Bush was heading to a new cold war, will Obama do the same?

Russia may use 'overkill' missiles to counter U.S. shield:

Seems like Obama is more positive and is ready to talk over this issue, unlike Bush. We'll see what happens, the talking is planned in December I think.

Obama would have sensible and intelligent guys around him, so we may say that he will try to stop new cold war.

I think Obama will be more level headed in dealing with Russia.

I would not want Cold War 2.0. The first version was bad enough, and I hope Obama will reverse Bush's wild ride, including the support of Georgia, which it turns out may have provoked the confrontation with Russia a few months ago. See Gorbachev: Georgia started conflict in S. Osettia.

From 1945 till the late 1980's the Cold War dominated world politics. Its amazing a large war was never fought between the US and its allies versus the Soviets and their allies.

Many smaller, but still large "proxie wars" were fought; Korea, Vietnam to name a few. Other wars were fought between respective allies of the West versus the Soviets wherein the respective allies fought using weapons supplied by either the Soviets or the West...."the wars in the middle east between Israel and Egypt and Syria. Africa saw many wars wherein armies supplied by the Soviets and West fought one another.

Those are just examples. There were many more.

IMHO, Bush's relationship with Putin was wierd. In this decade, as Russia has gained financial strength and solidified its nation, following the tough times after the end of communism, the old enmity between the US and Russia has returned.

The nations should look for areas of mutual agreement rather than view one another as enemies, once again.
