    Hello Guys,

    What is this latent semantic index? When I attended for an interview interviewer asked this question to me. I hadn't any idea about this.
    Please give me some ideas about this.

    Latent Semantic Indexing (LSI) is a unique information retrieval method developed that improves your ability to find applicable information. Using a powerful and fully automatic statistical algorithms LSI can retrieve relevant documents even when they do not share any words with your query — concepts replace keywords to improve retrieval. Latent semantic indexing adds an important step to the document indexing process. In addition to recording which keywords a document contains, the method examines the document collection as a whole, to see which other documents contain some of those same words. LSI considers documents that have many words in common to be semantically close, and ones with few words in common to be semantically distant.

    LSI is a system that looks at all the words within a document and try to associate it with a meaning or intent.

    For instance take the word "apple". Apple could be referring to the fruit or the company.

    LSI keeps a record of what other words appear often around other words.

    So if a spider finds the word apple and the word ipod or computer in the same document, because of it's vast database, it knows that this sort of thing is common and can figure that the document is about apple the company and not the fruit.

    That, as far as I know is what LSI is all about.

    based on my own experience, LSI is very effective on my SEO campaign. Because I believe that LSI belongs with their algorithm.
