A script that has been cracked so you don't have to pay for its license to use it. This should be an illegal copy of the script.

nulled is nice to test and see the functions,
but in production environment let me direct you to always use licensed stuff.
nulled mostly has backdoors either from the developpers or from the crackers, if both parties are not the same ;)

Well it must be pretty awful for the developers..
    but who can stop them??
crackers exist in the same degree as them..if not better .

a script "calls back home" (checks with the developers) to check if your copy is legit

it a script gets "nulled" then, that script doesn't "call back" anymore and the developer doesn't know that your copy is payed for

Nulled scripts are scripts with disabled verification functions. Since they are free, many use them for "testing purposes" only as they're illegal to use. Popular or not, it's still illegal. If you get popular and make money by using such scripts on your site, buy the licensed versions. Respect intellectual properties.

nulled means that it has been disconnected from the official site so that they don't know your using the software.
