Google released a new patent for pagerank. Method for node ranking in a linked database The complete patent is to be found here. Some seo experts gave an opinion, Jim Boykin, Loren Baker and William Slawski Not really sure what it all means, we'll just see with the next update.
With a quick read, it looks more like they are updating the patent than updating anything to do with PageRank, although it was a speed-read and I may well have missed something. It just looks to me like what they've been doing for some time.
Darn good question. The way it is worded makes no sense to me. Any attorney's here that can put that sentence into plain english for the rest of us?
Interesting deduction, could very well be a good thing - as links higher in the web page should be more relevant and get more weight. Also, most spam sites have a bunch of footer links and in that case (because their in an area that won't get many clicks) they would be devalued. Just more speculation really.
Sounds to me that they have found a lot of hits come from random wandering and are trying to remove this from their data. It almost sounds like they are trying to remove typein hits -- devaluing aaaaa.com, 12345.com --- realy devaluing all generics. But this assumes that they use site hits as input in the first place, something I have not heard that they do. That would create a rich-get-richer situation.
Well, pagerank is interesting due to its early uniqueness versus the way other search engines kept records. Patenting it is news to me though also.
PageRank was filed for patent in 1998 and eventually the patent came through in 2001. The re-patent of the PageRank is more than likely extending and refining the original Patent as the web has advanced significantly since the original patent was filed.
In fact, several additional patents representing extensions and enhancements of the original patent have been filed over the years.
Like I said, news to me. I never researched the patent aspects of it. Makes sense that they would do that of course.
Well, Google does show pages that get clicked on more often a bit higher. But I don't think that making the PR dependant on it would make it better. So much room for abuse and misundertsanding on the part of SEs.
oh this is new point to me.i have to take notee of this from know.actually i dint get this point yet.
