    If you google color theory you can get some good information on color combinations.

    Some are analogous colors which are close to each other on the color wheel:

    Like this

    Also complementary colors work well too. These are opposite on the color wheel. purple orange

    For the thoery I always use HSB color thoery when matching the colors.
    It is better than RGB in this situation .

    You can learn the color combination from the famous site .
    Also you can google with the following keywords , color schme, color matching ,color combination .

    Here is a Low Tech process I use when I get "color block".

    I go to Home Depot or the like and pick up a bunch of those paint color test strips. Then I lay out the colors I think would look good an mix 'n match.

    Another thing I do, especially if I'm designing a brochure or other advertising piece, is take pictures of the business inside and out and use the colors found there as an inspiration.
