can you reach the search engine rankings from just quality links without valuable content?

well to be honest. I am an seo and I believe that you eed both, but.... if you use alot of content, I believe you will need less links. I have backed this theory up with a few sites that I have build and promoted. This includes a website in the finance industry that is featuring on page 1 of G.

    Hello,

If the site title has the keyword, url has the keyword and a few high quality links are pointed to that page, u can have only 1 image on that page and it can get to first place.

I remember a while back when you were searching google for "robot" and the first result was the movie "I, Robot". That page didn't have any text on it, but a few quality links and that's all.

However, by writing quality content, many on topic pages that get a lot of attention by you targeted visitors you might rank easier. However, this is not simply because the content is good and content is going to rank you. This happens because users usually link to quality content, thus ending up in having both great content and great links. This would be the ideal way to SEO a site, and will most likely never be affected by any algorithm updates from google or any other SE.

I can best answer this question with a question. Why do I want to be on your site if it has no useful information?
If your site site is ranked number one, yet has nothing to offer the end user, why would I stay there and not move along to number two. I don't know him but there is a fellow named Tyler Banfield running around here somewhere that chimed in with some really good info(with metrics if I remember) about this subject. I will try to track down the post for you.
hope that helps... While seo may be broken down into many parts, it is only one of many parts involved in marketing something.

You need both. You'll never rank with great content if you don't have any links. You'll have trouble ranking...and probably be penalized at some point...if you don't have content but have a lot of links.

Just build a valuable site, do the basic on page SEO, then get some links and you'll have a successful site.

Hi! You need both good content that match your niche plus good quality links. In building your link campaign go for a well balanced link strategy with all resources included. (Ex. articles, three ways, reciprocal, social and more)

Unless your links drive lots of traffic to your site then content is far more important!

IMO think for getting ranked well in SERP you need both quality backlinks and quality and unique content.

Well to begin with it is unclear what is meant by "valuable content".

If you meant quality content as in good articles and well written stuff, then no you dont need this.
If you meant a lot of content as in a 100,000 page website then yes and no depending if there are alot of duplicates on the content
if you meant a lot of good quality content. Yes you would need these to get high rankings especially on the competitive keywords.

Now how does this compare to backlinks? It doesn't. Backlinks are a ton more important. The idea is this: you can have the best content but 0 sites linking in; you will get 0 traffic. However if you have the worst content, but a million backlinks, I doubt you will not get traffic.

So answering your question, yes we can :D

It depends upon the search engine you are targeting. Yahoo gives lot of importance to content while google gives more importance to links. MSN... well its really easy. ;)

You can outrank a 500 page content site which got poor incoming links with a single page website which gets lot of relevant authority links.

But then content is important to get those authority links. :) So you need have both.

I believe it would be much more difficult the content not only gives the grounds for links to be made but it also helps in ranking your website on its own through the use of on page SEO.

Man without woman has no substance - woman without man has no existence. Similarly, content and SERP.:D
