Hello. I live like 1000 feet from an access point from my house and I have a 19 dbi antenna hooked up to my client access point. The internet works but it is very slow (400 kbit). When I am next to the access point the internet is 16000kbit. What can I do to make the connection faster? (I dont really want to buy a bigger antenna but would an amp help? If so where is the best place to get one?) Thanks!
Not sure what a repeater is, but try tilting the antenna towards where you use your computer most. I did this with my router and it worked pretty well. I got a signal where I wasn't getting one before, so I was happy..
I cant stick a repeater because its all private property and they is no power source. I installed dd-wrt on my linksys router and have an extended antenna which is pointed straight where the remote access point is located (i have no access in the room). THen I have a wire hooked up to my computer from the access point and thats how i get the internet. Would an access point help?
Best thing you could do is go parabolic. RadioLabs Stage 1 would do nicely. Or, you could try building your own wifi extender
That custom wifi extender is a good idea as long as your using a PC. I think you can buy some stuff to increase the range of your wifi for a few hundred dollars.
