Pretty good jump in traffic I'd say...

I had a pretty good jump in traffic over the past few days.

If only I could keep this going everyday. /sigh

This is a report from November 7th - November 10th (thus far today) ONLY.

With spikes like that I would have to assume it is from Digg?

Not digg but reddit. Digg is so facking rigged its rediculous, but the odd thing is the traffic today has just surpassed the day of the Reddit submission. The article is no longer on the front page, but i'm still getting mad traffic, and it's not mainly from reddit what so ever. We'll see how this ends up, i'll be sure to continue to post my stats.

Jeez - how did your server cope ? Mine crashes at 120-170 online - I am like get lost or you'll crash my site, it's a funny situation. So I try to spread it out evenly over the day .... and what about your bandwidth ?

I meant reddit.com . I just hit over 52k hits again for the day, still have some time left. Ironically enough, with this money, i have only used 30 mbs of my 300 gig limit. Trick is, i don't use many images on my website, and the ones i do have i host on my schools server -- we get 1 gig + server storage we can keep for all eternity. That way, it doesn't put stress on my server. If you want to know my hosting package, i can give you the link. I pay 4 bucks a month, have something like 100 gig storage and 300 gig bandwidth. It's a pretty decent host overall.

Huh ? No way ? .... a $4 server can handle that much traffic ? ..... I have a dedicated server and that crashes at 120-170 visitors online .... and that only reaches 10000 to 13000 visits per day. So 50000+ visitors would average about 450-500 online (at any time) - now a $4 server (shared) must be pretty damn good to handle that.

I run a wordpress blog with minimal plug-ins. What are you running ? must be plain html pages as PHP is exhausting enough - to crash a shared server when it's that busy.

I have a jump like that traffic before and it comes from search engines. One of my SERP articles has help to top that word.

Hah, I'm dead serious. I literally have NO images on the website whatsoever. Any big images are hosted on my school server space. I have alot of php and queries, but other than that, there is nothing very intensive on the bandwidth. I use 1and1 for hosting.

What i have yet to figure out, is getting more hits from search engines. In my sites life (2 months), i have gotten a total of a about 200 hits from search engines.

Images are fine, they wont hurt your server - that'll only effect bandwidth. PHP & SQL queries hurt CPU and crash SQL / databases .... normally with to many connections and timeouts - of course 100% usage crashes the site also.

Maybe you should check 404s and error pages to see if your site crashed ?

Thsadmin, you have any sort of IM? I just have a few questions for you (I've been following your posts and your main website) that i would rather not go back and forth on this thread and rather not resort to PMs if possible.

PM me if you have any sort of IM or whatnot.

thsadmin - If you have your own dedicated box you should be able to handle that kind of volume pretty easily. Check your mysql connections limit, it defaults to 100-200 when you first install mysql. But a dedicated box that isn't running other sites can easily handle more than that, and this limit would crash your blog if it got that high.

Sigh .... doesn't matter now .... Google banned my site and I have no idea why .... from 0 to 10000 uniques per day in a matter of 3 weeks ..... back to 100s per day again. Man I hate Google - only thing that I can think of is that I have exploited Google or been classed as spamming for benefits .... or someone at DP hates me enough to make up Bull shit - just to ruin me (and report me to Google).
