I have WP 2.3 running. I want to upgrade. Can somebody please tell me which files I should upgrade and which files i shouldn't replace with the new ones.

I just don;t want to end up losing all. Please help before i take the final plunge.

    Many Thanks in advance.

    :)

Did you make any custom edits to the default theme? If not, you should be fine uploading all of the new files to your server, since this wouldn't overwrite files of the theme you are using.

have you installed manually or via cPanel. if you have installed via cPanel then you will have option to upgrade it via cPanel -> Fantastico. make sure you take necessary backups (database, etc.) before upgrading.

dpsubi1: when i installed first time, it was from the control panel , i selected free elefante scripts. I selected "Wordpress" and defined the path and DB to use for the installment. Then it was installed. And then all i did was to login my wordpress dashboard and start using it. Was this manual?

Makethatdollar: custom edit on default theme? i don't understand :-/ i use another theme and didnt edit anything in the default theme (the stylesheet files, header, footer, etc)

Reading your reply, I can guess you haven't "hacked" your Wordpress blog. This is what you need to do:

    1. Download Wordpress
    2. Backup your files and database
    3. Delete everything (wp-admin folder, wp-includes folder and all files with a "wp-") except the wp-content folder, wp-config.php and .htaccess files.
    4. Copy the new Wordpress files to your server (remember, don't delete or overwrite the files described above)
    5. Go to wp-admin to run the upgrade program
