I'm also DMOZ editor and would like to add some more thing to consider when submitting your site at DMOZ.

If at the bottom of the category page is this line:
"Volunteer to edit this category. "

this means that there is no editor for that category to inspect your site and all submitted sites are still waiting to be inspected until editor is approved for that category.

ya Dmoz is difficult to list the website, as there is specific norms to submit website and Two months is a very short time to wait for DMOZ. it can also possible like some categories do not have editors, so the wait may be a very long time until an editor signs up for that area. i thing dmoz listing time min 6 month. keeo trying but don't submit before 6 month, once you submit than if not listed so after 6 month u will try, :)

Not at all true. Some 200+ editors can work in any category that they choose and most do. Most twig category editing is done by more senior editors and editalls+ from above.

For example, I have named permissions at UK level but I've spent the morning working in Worcestershire villages.

Yes I agree, but crutial word here is (Some 200+ editors) "can". In my experience generaly you will be waiting more for your site to be inspected in category which doesn't have editor/s, comparing ones that have editors, but of course this is not the rule.

    @DIYhomesellers.com:
Just to point out that a listing suggestion overwrites any earlier one, thus pushing it down to the bottom of the pile (if the editor sorts it by suggestion date order). This is probably not the effect hoped for :D.

The system works as it does to allow folks to amend their listing suggestions. You don't think we should permit that?

    It's not a business :).

If its not a business then you would think they wouldn't partner with other businesses such as Netscape and AOL...but anyway I just feel they have broken processes which don't help out those who use the tool properly. Thanks for your opinion though.

Pretty interesting thread, I must say, I've had problems getting listed in DMOZ at times, then on other occasions, its taken less than a week. The one site I have not been able to get listed is a mortgage/finance site - but I believe thats because it has Google Ads embedded...DMOZ doesn't like them! Oh well, I can't justify taking them off, its a reasonable income stream.

A far few of my other sites have been listed tho.

    Good luck to everyone else!

Yeah, good luck with the Mortgage/Finance site, real estate seems to be tough in general right now to get accepted into. I'm not sure if they need more approvers or what. But be careful what you say on here or you'll get a 'red rep' for it (apparently)..haha

    Best of luck!

Shorething - They dont have any issues with adsense (except in the case of MFAs, in which case any decent directory would). If your site has a couple of adsense ads but is otherwise a decent site there's no problem aside from the norm... it's always been a hit or miss thing getting into there just because some areas are more heavily edited than others. Doubt the ads had anything to do with it, so prob just a matter of time. Good luck.

I agree with Silky Smooth. I don't think the accusations of DMOZ editors being anti-competitive is anything new. Though also, I think DMOZ to keep their site submission criteria to be listed is fairly strict in order to maintain itself as an authority. I think a majority of the time, people do submit their sites into a very general category. If you have tried for years to be in one, then perhaps a region specific category could help get you over the line. Though like everyone says re-submitting frequently is definitely not a good thing. Submit once, come back in 6 months to see how you went.

I tried to add my website in dmoz, but never got approved. Only one website is listed in that category. But when i look for page ranks, it has not given the listed site any added benefits. It is just like any other link directory.

No, its not the age, original content and to follow these instructions is all that matters.
