I would advice against buying traffic.
Get a press release for your website so that you can get backlinks from press release websites. That will bring instant traffic and you might get in the news if they find your story interesting enough :)

where to start... There are alot of ways you can get started. However it depends on your budget.

    Three quick ways would be:
    - PPC advertising - so long as you can justify the expense with revenue.
    - Content marketing - creating great content and placing it in the online community with a link back to your site.
    - SEO - optimizing your site so it ranks highly in search engines

Here's a site with some great content to get you started : sbimonline

That would depend on a wide range of things like the demographic for instance. Without a link you are simply going to get a bunch of regurgitated, canned responses.

I am not trying to be difficult by repeating myself ;)

"Without a link you are simply going to get a bunch of regurgitated, canned responses."
How you advertise something depends on a wide range of things like the demographic, are you selling a service or product... is it a news site, etc.

If its top secret feel free to shoot me a PM and I will take a look and advise you properly. Otherwise, you will get a range of folks that just want of piece of your 3 grand who don't really know what they are talking about.

It depends on nature of your site, if you are selling your products it can be resaonable to use facebook as you can pick targeted audience for your ads.

You should start to familiarize with SEO, spending $3k on SEO and learning it can give you much more profit per $ spent on SEO than $ spent by other means.
First you need to identify keywords that your potential buyer woul enter in search engines than optimize you campaign for it eg I would spent most of that money paying blogers to make blog/review about your niche and have a link with "targeted keyword" to my site

Definately don't buy traffic, its not targetted.

It also depends on what your target audience is, try social bookmarking for younger surfers, but always try to get backlinks from websites within the same niche.

If you're not skilled at adwords, then stay away, you can easily blow your budget without getting target traffic.

Article marketing (if you like writing), and post to Ezine Articles
Blogging on multiple blogging platforms: blogger.com wordpress.com squidoo.com
    Forums: like this one.

Don't use AdWords because you might end up wasting money. Use press release and submit articles to article directories for maximum result.

I think google Adword is very useful. It is depending on the amount of money you spend and the return you get from it. You have to experiment until you find the right ads, keywords and price per click.

No i would not suggest you buy traffic.
Coz the traffic come and goes.
You no need that kind of traffic.
What you need is loyal visitor that keep coming back to your site
