On Sunday I am going to run my first half marathon. (13.1 miles) Does anyone here run? Can you give me any advice?
I run now and then but I do more cardio work on the heavy bag now Eat a bowel of wholemeal pasta the evening before the run. In the morning have some porridge or oatmeal, and some fruit (bananas are good). Sip an isotonic drink or water throughout the morning to stay hydrated. Make sure you run at your own pace and forget everyone else. And make sure you save enough energy for a sprint on the last 1k metres. There's nothing worse than having to walk the last part of the race. Decent running shoes are ideal aswell to prevent shin splints
Congrats on doing the marathon. It's a big thing to do. Best of luck! I couldn't run that long... not even close to that length.
Thanks for the advice. I never thought of eating pasta the night before but that makes a lot of sense. Im 20 and am fairly athletic. I have been training for this race for 2 months now but the furthest I have ever run was 10.8 miles. Should be fun though.
i started running but then my schedule all changed and now unless i get up at 4am i can't run, and since i don't get to bed until 1am, i don't think thats happening. I love the feeling you get when you finish though. like setting out for 10 miles having never done it, or never done it in that time, then beating your record or just completing the distance. It feels GREAT!
For 3 days before hand almost over hydrate so that your wee is clear. The camel effect will mean you won't need to drink as much during the race. Relax and enjoy it. Nerves are inevitable but really, you are running for yourself. Unless you have a reason to be treating it as a race - make your priority to finish and finish comfortably. Then on your next half you can concentrate on a personal best to beat this one.
I don't run but I usually jog everyday. If you are thinking of running on a marathon than better prefer for it by jogging everyday.
2 times a week i do jogging about 3-4 miles, i do this to prepare my 13 miles marathon run that will due on this December. Without any exercise, i am sure you won't be able to finish it. Remember to choose a good shoes that makes you comfortable, it will help to prevent a cramp and bad injuries. Good luck.
Do some practice before you actually participate in the run. Running for the first time for such a long distance will make you tired and you will feel terrible. Best of luck
Most of the runners I see DO NOT CARRY WATER?! I don't get it. I drink about 1 litre of water every hour on my bike, and runners probably dehydrate way faster than cyclists do. I like it when I see runners over doing it and vomiting jeez I wish I had a bell on my bike sometimes, or even one of those old school Mr. Burns honky horns
