Meta tags are very important thing in SEO, Google always look all these tags, meta tags is important in search engine submissions also because we do SE submission to search engines know your site and we will put only the url of the page who contains your meta tags, description, robot files.

 

Depends on what attributes you are talking about, if you are talking about Title, Description.. then they are very important or your site is nothing in front of search engines.

But if you are talking about the keyword attribute. this is not very important because now a days search engines go for the content and not your keywords, because they want to know what your site is all about, not the hidden words used in keyword meta tag.
