I just started a blog to promote my writing service...now what?

I kept reading where I needed to create a blog to promote my writing, so I included one on my website. Now, what do I do in order to get business from it? What are the next steps I should take to get some targeted traffic, other than adwords.(I tried an adwords campaign before the blog, but It failed to produce leads.

    Thanks

    Hi there,
    try some internet marketing

like directory submission, article submission, social bookmarking, link exchange, buy link spot, advertising,

all you can do to push some traffic.

I actually just wrote an ebook about what to do with a new blog in terms of marketing tactics, you can find it at my own blog. It dicusses article marketing, directory submission, social media, blog commenting, etc.

Should I link to my blog, or to my main site?

Just expand really. Do a lot of internet marketing to increase the hit rate of your website and just try to provide the best content possible, you could add in "reviews on my service" as well, which will help out a lot when people look at your website and don't trust you / want to have some evidence / want to have some reviews on your service.

You could advertise directly on sites like getafreelancer.com or forums like this one, and use your website as portfolio.

I'd do the above, especially GAF to get you some work coming in. But, you should also visit some other blogs to do with writing and comment on their blog and communicate with them. Joining other like minded people will influence your reputation.

This, with good articles and directory submissions will build you some traffic.

You could also contact a couple of PLR websites and see if they need any content writers.
