add it to directories & forums lists... go regional - that would help you structure your efforts. say, find "homepage"-type sites for certain states, countries. such sites always have directories and catalogs

I'd get some interaction going on there before promoting it- here's why:

I've seen forums on the website for a local newspaper which have little - no members, posts etc. They have the traffic, but because theres no interaction, most visitors don't wanna post.

So, start interacting on there with friends who are in the same field as the forum topic, get some content & visible (& regular) interaction going, THEN promote it.

But thats my 2 cents. :D

    hi there,
when last time i start a forum,
i use one software,(i cant remember what the name)
the software auto grab info and answer from yahoo answer,
it can flood your forum in just a second,

with this benefit, your forum look more content, it can attract new member to join and chat in
this is the best way to start rather than pay someone to post some thread.

I think forums are harder to promote. You need people and posts, and first you need an interesting idea.

...yes, no need asking how to promote a forum having no "interesting idea" on what the forum's gonna be :D

Any of the following would help:
    • Getting reciprocal or one-way links from relevant sites or blogs
    • Use one of the forum signature services here at DP to advertise a link to your site
    • Create an article about the subject of your forum with a link to your site at the bottom, and submit it to 200+ directories
    • Answer some questions relevant to your forum at Yahoo Answers with a link to your forum
    • Create a blog relevant to your forum that promotes your forum - make sure it is optimized for the search engines
    • Purchase traffic from one of the services here at DP - it is cheap, and will usually get 1-5% to post something if legitimate (non-bot traffic)
    • Offer to pay people to post to your forum - make an offer of $1 per 10 posts, or $5.00 per 50 posts. Investing $20 in some posts can make the difference between people staying and leaving...nobody wants to hang on at a ghosttown
There are a few ideas for you - hopefully some are useful for you

contact all the people you know and invite them to join and get involved.. you can also run a contest for everyone who posts during the month

Yes, that's right. I have seen other forums who conducted some contest in their forum and it's effective to make members more active in posting interesting threads and give some referrals to their friends.
