Lots of hits but not converting (Hockey site)

    Hello everyone,

I'm still fairly new at the internet marketing game, so I come for some advice.

I've started a little pet project on hockey prospects (people going to be drafted into the NHL).

I've had 1 site up for 2 months now, and its averaging 400-500 hits per month from Google, and ranks number 3-5 for the players name (he's number 2 in world for draft picks, gets searched a lot).

Anyway, In total I've had 3 clicks on my google ads and $0 revenue from CJ. I'm promoting StubHub along with Jerseys from a couple places, and ZIP (7/10ths of my visitors are from Canada, 2/10ths from the states and the rest from misc. countries).

Anyway, does anyone have any suggestions as to how I could increase my income here? I'm not in this to get rich or anything, I'm just trying to see how everything works. I'm about to launch 2 other similar blog sites for other players, and start a "network" of them, but want to get the monetization down first.

Any help/suggestions anyone can give would be great! the link is www.john-tavares.ca

    Thanks,

    - Mat

    A couple suggestions..
1: dump the border around your adsense..Make it white which is what the background is.
2: You have CJ ads at the bottom of each individual post..maybe add a adsense "link unit" of 4 or 5 links directly under the title on each individual page?

Hope this helps. Nice site best of luck with it!

Remove the border and maybe place it on another place on the page. I just don't know where.

Personally, I would recommend using more zip/email submits or other sports-related CPA offers.

There's hockey jerseys, sports drinks, plasma TVs and a ton of other thing your target market (male hockey fans, mostly Canadian, 15-35) would love to have. You just need to watch for scrubbing on the zip and email submits.

Join a few affiliate networks and try some of the offers they've got that would suit the market. You'll find your conversion rate is often much higher than with Adwords, as the offers are more targetted.

Thanks everyone, I will take the border off adsense... wow just realized the site is a bit broken in IE too, better fix that up.

I'll redo some things on it this weekend and post it again here for some criticism :-D Thanks!

Wow, either you DP'ers are clicking my ads (please don't :-( lol) or the colour change really worked! I've got a couple of clicks in the last 2 days, which is more than in the last couple weeks! Thanks, I'm going to play around with this more... might change up my template a bit!

If you aren't making money from Adsense then its time that you dump them and sell some banners on your site. You could also try cpm.
