Dropped sites

Just trying to get some info to judge if there is a common factor on sites that have dropped compared to sites that are doing well.

Sites that dropped and deindexing, could you tell me:

    1) Number of pages running ads?
    2) Number of ads per page?
    3) Do you have ads pointing to the site that displays them?
    4) Did you rename your ad_network pages?

Sites that are flourishing, could you tell me:

    1) Number of pages running ads?
    2) Number of ads per page?
    3) Do you have ads pointing to the site that displays them?
    4) Did you rename your ad_network pages?

    Don't state domain names

If we can get enough replies this may give an indication of a reason for the opposite results we are seeing.
If you feel anything else is an important factor please post.

Lets try and be analytical and keep the emotions out please! :(

    To start things off:

    1 site deindexing
    1) 149,000
    2) 5
    3) Yes
    4) No

If anyone feels this thread should be elsewhere then I am happy for a mod to move it. OK TOPS30? :D

    Flourishing:
    1) All (around 6000)
    2) 5
    3) Yes
    4) No

Note however that when I joined up I had just one ad pointing to my index page. My ranks dropped way down. I then changed it up and made 4 ads pointing to different areas of my site and within a week saw my site at #1 for all but 1 keyword / phrase.

I think I may have been penalized for having lots of identical links to the same page. Change it up a bit.

    Flourishing
    1) 6000 html/ PHP non forum pages
    2) 5
    3) Yes
    4) No

As previously mentioned creating ads that point to other pages on your site is wise. I also created many synonymous key phrases that pointed to pages other than the index.

I took 200/k in weight and unleased it in about 30 days, incrementally.

Before joining the network (Dec 15, 2004), I was ranked #10 with G out of 33,000,000 pages for the main key phrase (anchor text) I was promoting . I am now #3 for that key phrase and extremely well ranked under some of the synonymous keywords I created. Traffic is now at an all time high.

    Online since 1999

All serps non-existent in g*. Seemed to happen a week ago today.

Not afraid to list the site ... wasn't started to make money but has developed into an actual money-maker :p

    www[.]top-real-estate-agents[.]org

    1) Not de-indexed, but non-existent in all serps. Prior to this week had achieved dozens of top 5 listings for <state> realtor, <state> realtors, <agency> realtor, etc.

    2) 5

    3) Yes. And based on several months of success with the network we recently bumped from ~100k network weight pointing to the site to ~500k pointing to the site.

    4) Not the ad_network_ads.txt file - no. But ad_network.php doesn't exist since it is a cold fusion site.

We have an in-house system very similar to the coop and haven't had any drops. But, I think the huge difference/mistake we made was the insane weight increase we went for in a short amount of time. Haven't done that with our own network but because of the size of the coop thought it was safe ... ooops!

I might be more upset over this except ....

    1) this wasn't supposed to be a huge revenue maker ... just nicely turned into one with the coop.

    2) the overall revenue is still much higher than ever expected because traffic from yahoo and msn has really built up over past few months I suspect all from the coop.

We'll be continuing to use the coop and I suspect will find if we don't do silly things like pointing 500k inbound weight to sites in a short timeframe, we'll be fine.
