I will moving from a shared server to a VPS in the next month or so.

The shared server with the entire site , backend and everything else is with "Hosting provider 1"

I will be ordering the VPS from a different hosting provider, that we shall call "hosting provider 2"

How do i move the domain , email and everything else from "hosting provider 1" over to the VPS at "hosting provider 2"

Anyone got a tutorial or anything? Maybe some suggestions etc?

    Thanks in advance

If your registrar is GoDaddy, then it's easy.

Change your domain's Nameservers to the GoDaddy Hosted Nameservers, then click "TotalDNS" and point the "A Record" at the IP address of your new server.

You can also point the MX records (mail), and CNAME records (subdomains) at your new server.

I just hope you find a good VPS provider, because my recent dealings with gate.com and gogax.com have been completely horrible.

If you have a control panel on your shared host you could google how to genearte a backup for this control panel. Your vps server must have same control panel to be compatible,

Or a control panel with tool that can convert data from the old one. Don't need exactly the same one.

    Hi,

We can take care of it, if you are unsure about how to proceed, mistakes can lead to breaking your site and thereby downtimes.
We can transfer the domain with minimal downtime.

Thank you to all for your suggestions and tips.

A week or so when i will actually be doing it, i will check here again.

Sorry but no , not gonna get someone else to do it. Way too much confidential info and such to risk it.

But will let u know how it goes.

    Thanks
