Increasing results with changing physical Location in Google?

Discussion in 'Google' started by k.alana123, Oct 20, 2008.

One of my sites is hosted on a server that is located in Atlanta, US.
It performs pretty well in the search results (in Google) and its in the top 5 of all its important keywords.

I want to rank higher for the important keywords in the India, so i have been thinking about moving my site to a India located server.
This will (probably) help me to rank higher for my keywords for the India results ( India is my main target audience.)

Does anyone have experience in this? what i have to do ? please suggest ur views

    Thanks
    Nitin

I didn't think it mattered where your site was located.

Maybe try getting an Indian domain name? I think it's like XXXX.in

    Goodluck.

The location of the hosting is a ranking factor, but not a very important one...

I will recommend you not to change the server if you want to keep the existing positions.

Co Location does play a small part in SERPs but you may be wiser to concentrate on getting some quality Indian backlinks to improve your SERPs in Google's indian search results.

You could form a subdomain and target the subdomain geographically. You could also get a country specific domain. If you translated your site to Hindi you would probably do better to go with the subdomain.

I don't think physical location of a server every affected search results.

If your server is located overseas but you are mainly interested in being found for location specific searches like "car wash India" then use google's webmaster tools to set a geo location for India. If you market is global then don't worry too much about it...only my opinion.

My opinion would be to keep your host and concentrate on adding relevant content and getting links.

There is no need to do that. First, you can set a Geo Target for your website from your google webmaster account. Second, you can ask your web hosting company to set the ownership of your domain name to your India address. Then google will think your website should be more relevant for india viewers.
