What is real advantage of Alexa rate?

I am blogging for more than a year, but never concerned with my Alexa rating. I don't really understand what is it all about. How does it help a blog?

Direct traffic? Attractive to advertisers? Attractive to search engines? Or simply like PR except that the lower is the better one?

How does one can have good Alexa rating?

Nothing, I think it is used as a marketing tool...and to give you an idea about the webmaster traffic from that site.

 

It doesn't drive traffic to your site.

It is just a website which gives you the detailed information about your site, like how many visitors you get, how many links your site has got, you can compare your site with other sites traffic, ranking and others.

This is all what alexa does

 

And sometimes Alexa isn't accurate with the stats.

 

Don't worry about Alexa mate. It is crap. Highly inaccurate and cannot be trusted on. C

 

there is no specific benefit of Alexa ranking, i am sharing one experience of mine...
i am working one site having 3500 unique visitors/day and alexa is 1,20,000 + and another site having only 100 visitors per day and alexa is 1,50,000+
now u can understand the difference in alexa ranking which is not identical..

 

i dont see any benefit other than peace of mind for some. alexa ranking can be sooooo deceiving

 

well alexa is just a rank, how more low your alexa rank it means that you have more traffic on that site, it just a rank to measure how much your avarage traffic, its a info for advertiser on your site.

 

Isn't it that Google Analytics can also do for us, except for the links we got?

Does it mean advertisers look at Alexa before deciding to blog to advertise in?

Yes, In most cases.

Let say you are going to sell links/banners on your site and saying you are receiving 1Million visitors per month... how can advertiser know that are you lying or not?

He will just go to alexa and type in your website URL and alexa will tell him the site statistics (not accurately but estimate).

Personally I just use it to compare my site against itself over time to see how I'm progressing. (That and I love stats. )

There are tons of ways to artificially bring up an alexa ranking, so comparing your site against another site is pretty useless imo.

 

Got it, thanks! But although it is not that accurate which I believe that nothing can be perfect, can we say that it is the most reliable so far?
