Hello, I'm interested in out sourcing our linking and ranking strategies to an SEO company. I'm having a difficult time in determining the proper criteria needed to select the right company. Can someone please give me some direction on how to chose a company and what standard rates are typically for a one year contract? I would hope no SEO reps themselves contact me through PM's and only respond in this thread if you have anything to add. I would prefer to hear from actual website owners and their personal experience. This is a big investment for me and would appreciate any input. Thank You
For a year? Well, we have monthly contracts as low as $3,000, so do the math. There are companies that are more expensive and a lot cheaper. Pretty much depends on if you want a company with experience or some kid that read this forum and figured they know it all now.
It completely depends on what the web site is, how it is designed, what the keywords are, and what the competition is. Then, is it a new site or mature. Do they have links now, how did they get them, ... As you can see, asking for a price without defining the needs is silly. Give us the URL and the targeted keywords and then you will get a more accurate answer.

Sometimes cheaper price goes with cheaper services,..try to look at there past and present client if there are satisfied or not.
As already said, price is going to an equation of efforts required. The effort estimation would depend on multiple factors and some of them are as mentioned by Catanich. Selecting an SEO company could be tough at times but you can check their previous works, ask for a few references, request a free report that would detail the strategy they would adopt. There are many SEO companies available. But while selecting one best of them, keep some points in mind. If any SEO give guarantee for ranking do not believe. No one can do it. In first 3 months you will not see vast difference and result. Gather all information about company's history. Most important is to know that the company is doing Spam or using black hat techniques? Because if once your site get blocked by Google or other SE than very less chance for again listing in SE. If company is new than their charge will be low, its natural.
