It's not necessary, but in my opinion it is still helpful. Do I have proof of its importance? No.

Even on a shared server you could still pay for a static IP for very little each month.

I don't think that dedicated IPs is going to cost you a bomb, so you might as well have it. As already said it is not going to make a big difference, but then every little helps.

Are the websites completely different to one another??

I don't think having a dedicated IP will give you any significant benefits, only if you were going to link your sites to each other then you would be better of getting a few different class C IP addresses.

Doesn't make much of a difference. There are no clear conclusions to it.

I have heard that dedicated ips are helpful to seo. Even my host says it. It costs only a few bucks so you better get it if you have the budget.

Here's a post from Matt Cutts on Virtual Hosts vs Dedicated IP Addresses, he discussed about this issue.

I believe it is not an issue. It doesn't matter on whether you are using a dedicated IP or not. It's just a matter on how well you optimize your site.

Well if they are nearly same and if you have any plans of cross-linking them in the future then go for dedicated IPs. Also, similar sites coming from the same IP looks spammy.

    Hello SEOibiza,

I have tested it some simple way, not very critically.
But I found maximum that the dedicated Ips are shown on top most and in some cases the shared are most.
Actually it can also be a fact of care ness of our own site. Most probably those who most care about there web site they use the dedicated Ips and the dedicated server also and does the SEO factors properly with care so there site goes on top most.

i understood you. that would make sense as a reason sites with dedicated IPs rank higher.

If the site is large and you want to create your own identity on the web, then better switch to dedicated IP.

I was going to recommend that link but looks like someone beat me to it. Like the man said, there never was an issue of having shared or dedicated IP hosting and the latter ranks better....its just a myth.

I agree. If you are not going to interlink your sites, I don't think you need dedicated IPs.
