I have been scratching my head and starining my eyes for months now trying to find what to do next. Something that brings in rakes of $$:D
So what do you guys think, is there any hope of making decent coin in any of the following
    1. Ebay clone
    2. Dating or Matrimonial site
    3. Naukri or Monster type job posting site clone
    4. Adbrite clone
    5. Adult couples swap site (members only)

    What do you think?
    What can generate some ca$hola?

Please also let me know your expereinces if you have tried your hand at some of these and it worked or not.
    Thanks in advance

I think an adult site will run more rapidly than others to get money.

Put yourself into the viewpoint of one of your target customers.

Why would they want to go to one of your clone sites?

well, thats not tough part. It can be worked upon with patience.
However the main thing is are there any successfull examples around.
The only field i see is matrimonial/dating sites which are doing good possibly
Others I am not too sure so want to hear more about them

I think a site like ebay would be very hard. The main problem being different enough and having features ebay does not and the whole getting the traffic away from ebay part. With hard work its possible for a clone site to get big but it could never happen.

Hmm. Those are all niches (not sure about the adult couples one) where there's already a lot of competition and big names that people gravitate towards. Not saying it can't be done, but what would you do to differentiate yourself from the competition? If I'm looking to auction something online, why should I list your site instead of ebay? Or ebid, or any of the other auction sites? Same question with dating, or jobs. Maybe if you tailored one of those sites to a specific niche audience, like an auction site that specializes in 60's memorabilia or something (just an example. i have no idea if that'd be profitable).

    Anyway good luck!

I'd go with the adult/dating site idea. In my opinion much better chance of making money here due to the nature of the market if you can find a nice niche.

Of course you can make money cloning a site, not as much as as coming up with a unique new idea, but of course there is hope.

Even if you did an ebay clone where you didn't have to pay to lose items could attract new clientele :)

Clone but make it on a popular niche. No point on taking on giants like ebay

The key to any business is a competitive advantage. Are you good at SEO? Are you good at offline advertising? Do you have relationships/friends in high places that can help you? Or do you just have a really good angle on one of those niches?

Those questions and the basic question of how can I get customers/beat the competition should drive your decision.

I wouldn't recommend those niches because they tend to be very competitive with several million-dollar major players. I would recommend either a lateral market or a small niche you can dominate.
