Someone STOLE my site - Whats next

Hi everyone. I have a story:

I decided it would be a good idea to put my site up for sale. So I did, and what did some bastard do? He copied my source, bought a similar domain name and went live (private reg, of course). Now this a-hole is advertising beside me in adwords and trying to make $$ with adsense. This has certainly f-ed with my head.

I have screenshots and downloaded copies of all the source codes, sent them to adwords and adsense. This bastard should be banned shortly, I suppose. So then what? They go YPN? Or do they just open a new acct with google? This is killing me. Word for word, this creep has stolen what I put many many hours into.

Why did someone just have to steal? Is it that hard to come up with your own idea? Has anyone experienced this before?

I wouldn't count on the person getting banned immediately from adwords or adsense. There is a process that google makes you follow before they will act and it can take a many months.

The fastest course would be to contact the infringing site and get them to take down the site, but you can also go after them for copyright infringement (depending on what country they are in). These types of people often don't have much money to collect, so it can be a tradeoff of getting the site down or going after them legally - which is a much longer and potentially costly course.

    That bastard!

Seems such things are par for the course on the web. I try to write my sites using remote js files and php includes that hide a lot of the code. But even that doesn`t always help. You had a good idea notifying adsence, it may help some. Still try not to get to caught up in it. This type of mess can nearly drive you crazy if you let it. I had a domain name stolen a few years back and it took a big toll on my resources ( both financial and mental ) till I decided to just let it go...

I really wish I could help more...

That happened to me too. Do a little investigation. Who is, get email adress or any data from site and enter it in Google. If you find some other site with same contact details, do who is for that one.
And when you get contact details, send him email to shut site downn or to prepare for court.

You don't need to post your URL, but at least post his URL so all the internet detectives over here at DP can help you find some info on this guy. (and it'll give me something to do over here at my day job :D )

send a email to the hosting company of the copycat's site. If you can proof to that hosting company that at a hole copy your site, they will take it down with in a few hour.

then he will burn his adword money for nothing, hehe

File a DMCA Notification of Infringement with AdSense and see if they will close the account.

well if he does move to another host.. then contact the new host but make sure you stay on this. I would call a lawyer and see what they say.. if it's costing you a lot of $$$$ then it wouldn't hurt to invest and at least have a laywer write him a letter explaining the situation.. and what could happen if he doesn't stop what he's doing.

Don't take this wrong, but since you were going to sell the site, i have no idea how big your site is etc.
The easiest (not the right) thing to do is let go and make a new website..
I'm not sure what i would have done if i was in your shoes.
Hope you do what you think is right and that all this will work out in the end

Imitation is the greatest form of flattery but not in this case lol. That is terrible how someone can get away with this, something must be done!
