I think Dedicated is best over VPS. It depends on conent you are hosting on web... If you have purchaced VPS do not ever use PHProxy or SMF

    Want Shared Hosting visit inversehost.net

I've downgraded actually. I owned a large forum, using 3 node cluster. Once it as sold, I was on a high-end dedicated box. Next came a P4, then a VPS, and currently I'm on a shared hosting because it has only a couple of personal sites.

    Keep business apart.

To be honest, you should always go with shared hosting FIRST and build your way up. If you are in GREAT need of a VPS, you can buy one.. there are lots of great hosts and deals out there. Google is your best friend. ;)

Shared hosting gives you peace of mind (letting others take care of the server) for you to concentrate on your sites.

VPS is always better (you control everything), provided it has decent resource amounts.

VPS isn't always better. Sleepless nights unless you're paying an arm and a leg for it.

VPS is much better in many ways than shared hosting. And I believe it must be taken from the reputable company (vpslink.com or globaltap.com) as these companies help their customers much to solve the problems if there are any.

Unless you really need it, don't go for a VPS.

I started with shared reseller hosting.
Later, I started using VPS to run a gtalk conference bot.
But I got so so many disappointments with the vps.
You need too much time to take care it.
If you don't need, the shared hosting is best.
