Does PR really matter?

My PR is low, yet, my pages show up high in the search engines under specific keywords. How bad is it that my PR is 0. What can I do to increase it. Thank you.

You have what you want most - good SERPs but it would be non-human not to want it all. You did not say how old your site is but I bet it is realatively new and after next pagerank update you will see some green in your tool bar.

    Good luck.

I don't think so.. I went to one of those sites that tell you where you'll be after next page rank and mine still said 0. I am baffled.

I would put about as much faith in those as I would a palm reader who sets up shop on a corner.

Pagerank is all about backlinks. Are you building backlinks as you go along? If not try to start building some.

I don't mean to sound stupid, but, since this thread is already here, I have seen different terms for backlinking. What's the easiest way to get a backlink. Thank you. Especially if your PR is 0

PR is pointless unless you're selling links. POINTLESS!

At lease you can sell PR text links. That's profit from PR which is not your property. LOL

Totally agree! it's a waste of time and useless effort trying to get higher ranks when all of us know how "temperamental" is Google

In fact, there are "desertic sites" with page rank 6 and above where only search engines go, but no human traffic.

And true that selling links is the only reason to worry about

I am in no way any kind of expert...

But!, what I think is *It All Matters!!* whether it's (The ALL Mighty Google) or Yahoo or MSN or who ever the other Players may be in this Game...

All the tiny pieces come together to make the "Whole Picture"...

I really doubt anything Google does will be the Death of any site, tho I have been wrong alot...

Myself I see way too many people *Banking on What Google Does* and then closing all their other Options...

Then again that's just me.. :D

Higher PR is not a waste of time and there's more benefits than just trying to sell a link. Higher PR pages are usually crawled more frequently as well as the pages linked to from these high PR pages.

I don't like to sell links but I know many people benefit from them

What I have been doing was working hard on my best ranked site (PR5 for a whole year)

However appearing as the number 1 result of its type for months, after adding more content in the past few weeks, the rank remains instact but the indexing has suffered Google's temperament, and now the site appears indexed some days and some days not, and the same the bunch of pages indexed before, but not the news.

That's why I consider my time wasted :/

New quality content is never a waste of time - more spider food. :D

Can you get a few external links pointing to the new pages?

I think PR influences depth of crawling rather than placement in SERPs. I've had good results with search engine traffic because of unsual content on low PR sites.

There my friends is the value of PR. Higher PR tells Googlebot to come visit more often. That could mean that changes to pages will be cached faster on sites with high PR. So what you want to do, "Buffy" :D is continue to build up those inbound links. Don't trust every future PR tool to be accurate.

    Ah, that's the clue!!!

I added a sub-menu linking to those pages but it is not in the main page, just a new single alternate index file in the belief that Search Engine would find it by themselves, since the new content is intended as stand-alone reference :/

Thanks for pointing me out to the right direction :)

PR is just a screen cast by Google. Ignore it, what are you going to do, turn a crank and bump yourself up to PR 6 instead of 5?

Here is what you should be looking at, and paying attention to instead:
    1. How much SE traffic you are getting
    2. What SEs is it coming from
    3. What are your keywords
    4. How much money are you making

That is the things you should be looking at day to day. I look at my site's PR may be 3 times a year. Who cares.

I totally agree here. PR is the last thing you should worry about, its doing you no good if your not bringing in traffic to buy your products or click your ads. PR is a great text link sale tool. Other than that it is google telling you how close to perfection your page is, with google.com being the #1 which is ridiculous.
