    Hi All.

I have been lurking a while, and seen a lot of interesting discusions in this forum, but i have never seen a thread asking this question :

What are the busiest types of website ?
    OR
Which types of site get most traffic ?

I am talking about the type of site you go buy domain, put the site up and do nothing and in 3 months its causing you a bandwidth problem or something.

I will start off listing the ones i know to be busy with little effort

    1) pr0n ( of course )
    2) Proxies - ( for suring pr0n :p )

What else is there out there ? Any ideas ?

Controversial sites get HUGE traffic, and it's actually valuable traffic.

(Why do you think the "Da Vinci Code" is so popular?)

Open up a can of worms in your niche, and watch your traffic levels soar.

    P.S. Use a "pen name"...

Lars: I have some image hosting / file hosting and download sites, they are not that busy, what type of download sites were you thinking about ?

chris_surfrider: great tip, i had not thought about it, but it makes allot of sense.

PS. Whats a "pen name" ?

A pen name is a fake name.

    Like "Mark Twain".

    Except, I'd use something like:

    "The Grouchy Traveller"

    or

    "The Ungrateful Audio Freak"

    And so on.

This allows you to be unorthodox, opinionated and outspoken without risking your reputation on it.

(Use a generic domain registered to a PO Box or something too).

The idea here is to make some people love you, and others will hate you.

But who cares - they're coming to your site in DROVES and buying your stuff, clicking your ads, and so on...

Prime example: "The Rich Jerk", at http://www.therichjerk.com

It wasn't advertising that made that guy a success...

Free game sites, humour, funny video, soft porn and celebrity sites also get a lot of traffic.

Entertainment sites like youtube.com or filecabi.net I don't know how well they do in converting that traffic to sales though.

Anything that is free, entertaining, and viral. The converting the traffic to sales part really boils down to what country that traffic is from; US traffic is gold.
