He is asking on-page optimization not off-page.

The Title, Heading, Image Optimization and content are the focus area in on-page optimization. Insert your target keyword in title, heading and try to repeat the same keyword some where in the content. Add alt tag to the images and it should be relevant to the images. Also check the internal linking. It should be search engine friendly and if possible try to submit xml sitemap. It is not necessary if your website is small.

On Page SEO is nothing but optimizing keywod desity, titles, meta tags etc. its alot more than these, infact it has to be more than 20 factors which fell in on page SEO.

In onpage optimization, Keyword research plays an important role, once you select proper keywords try to do keyword grouping and target relevant keywords in same page.
Write proper title and description tag and do content optimization by targeting keywords for that page.
Once you done with above stuff, do proper internal linking and site navigation.

    all the best

The use of in-text links on your page can be very helpful. I recently spent several days laboriously editing the copy on every page of the site in sig link #1. When I found a keyword phrase on one page that related to another page's theme, I linked from right within the sentence (with good anchor text) to that other page within my site. Going over the content of the entire website, I probably added something like 1,000 in-text links to other pages in the site.

Statistics since then seem to suggest that this has boosted my traffic.

I think that titble, metadiscription and meta keywords are most important, but later on you will see that content is bringing most of your traffic. Also the name of the webpage, ex. phones-house.com/phones.html will be very easily to develope for keyword phones, for second rated keyword, if you cannot change the website title of phones-house.com

    okay,
So, check out this page, right click and "view source"
You'll see at the top of the page something like
    <title>on page optimization</title>

That is your title tag, it shows up on top of your browser, it's what the search engine see's first

    Hope you understand now :)

On page optimization starts with your content. Make sure your content is unique and it contains your keywords. The better the content, the better traffic you will get. Make sure you have all of your header information done correctly. This is the meta tags, descriptions, keywords, etc.

You are going to want to put in a lot of time into your keywords research. If your site is relatively new make sure you are targetting keywords that do not have a lot of competition. Go to google and type in your keywords into a normal google search, if the search returns more than a million pages - chances are not going to get traffic for that keyword any time soon. Target several lower competition keywords to establish traffic and web recognition. Afterwards you can work your way up to keywords with higher competition.
