It must be a customed CMS. Just like you I'm also curious what site like NY Times is using. I saw another smaller site the Irrawaddy mimicking NY Times.

I hope fellow dpers can help us in identifying what cms are they using.

They are probably using a video hosting script. The problem is that they are expensive. A friend of mine did similar to what you want with onarcade.

You can check out my AutoVideoScript. It will pull videos from youtube with the keywords you specify. You can see a demo at http://demo.autovideoscript.com. It's low maintenance because youtube provides all the videos and you don't have to go around reaching yourself.

You can find out what CMS they're using by entering them in BuiltWith.com.

You must run the auto video script, friend. There some products about this. Some are based on PHP like PHP Melody and Auto Tube.

I've seen a plugins for Wordpress that can automatically grab video from Youtube, Metacafe, etc. You can googling for look at them .. :D

Well it's a bit cheeky, but you could ask the people selling them questions like "what system is it using?" and "what plugins does it use to make it work, are they up to date?" etc, which are perfectly legitimate questions - chances are someone else will ask anyway.Though, to be honest, some of the sites being sold are so cheap you might as well just buy one that's already set up - then you don't have to do any work and you also find out what makes it tick. :)

P.S. I don't go for auto updating stuff myself because I think it's pants, but there is stuff like this http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/smart-youtube/ for instance, which isn't exactly what you're after but still interesting nonetheless.
