Favicon.ico help needed

I'm trying to make a favicon for one of my websites, here is what I did;

I made the favicon in photoshop, saved it as a .png and renamed it from favicon.png to favicon.ico, put it in the root directory and nothing is showing up!

Could somebody please enlighten me?

 

try using a image converter. sometimes renaming it doesn't work. I use Right Click Image Converter works like a charm
