Wordpress 2.7 release date?

Discussion in 'WordPress' started by timsdd, Oct 13, 2008.

I apologize if this is a dup but the search function really sucks sometimes

I know 2.7 is in the works but was wondering what the expected release date was?

I didn't want to bother with 2.6.X if 2.7 was just around the corner.

    Anybody been tracking that?

I believe it is the 10th of november. So far it is really awesome, I wish it was stable enough to run live.

On a side note I would upgrade. It isnt hard to do, and fixes some security holes. It is also less likely to cause problems if you dont skip releases when upgrading. Not that I expect there would be a problem, just lowers the chance.

solid, I need to read up on the feature then

and great, you answered my next question about intermediate upgrades. I was aware of the security issues that 262 fixed but it never occurred to me that skipping them might mess with future releases

Most likely you wont have a problem, it has just been my experience that things go smoother when you upgrade from the most current releases.

The new features are great. The biggest noticeable differences are in the admin panel, and template engine. There are several neat template functions introduced, many of which embrace child themes. Dont be worried though, your current theme should work just fine :)

trust me, if something can go wrong (mostly with windows actually) it usually will for me :p

do you UG WP by hand or with the plug-in, I've heard some bad things about the P/I.

biggest key is just to make a b/u prior to the UG I'm sure. :)

I only upgrase by hand, and yes, a back up is very vital. I personally set wp to email me a backup daily.

the plugin is handy I guess, but can be very buggy. and really all it does is download wp, unzip it, and replace your old files. something that is very simple to do without the plugin.

I am writing a tutorial now about how to upgrade. I will send you a link when I am finished if you like.

yeah, I have the backup WP P/I as well, I get a weekly update.

sure, post the tut after you are done, especially if it includes thing that the standard instructions do not!

have you ever had to do the detailed U/G or just the typical "5 step" that WP has available?

gah! it figures...I put off upgrading from 2.5.1 forever, finally get to 2.6.2 and then like a week later 2.6.3 is available now!!

I wonder how many more version will be released before 2.7?
anybody have any info or feeling about that?

I swear they upgrade every other week! But I guess it's not a bad thing if they're fixing all the problems and making it better... but it's annoying upgrading so frequently.

I guess it's better safe than sorry though!

I hear you, I think that's why I waited so long to upgrade in the first place! But like you said, if it fixes problems especially security issues like 2.6.2 fixed then it's worth it.

I'm sure WP says somewhere but I did not see what 2.6.3 fixed or made better...I think I need to see if it has any security flaws that it fixed and if not I might pass on it :p
