Changing a pages URL, what's the best way?

I have a web site that when I designed it, I used very very simple short page names for the URL's.

I could really do with changing them to more keyword specific URL's.

So whats the best way to go about it?

301 redirects?

Say Redirect 301 /key.html http://www. mydomain. com/keyword_rich_name.html

and is there a limit to the number of pages you should redirect in this way?

Yes, using a 301 redirect is advised. No limit on the URLs you redirect either.
