Bill Gates wouldn't be able to hit the broad side of a barn with a rock and a sling.

There's no way this Goliath is going down any time soon.

Linus does not "manage" to manage, but his decisions make Linux a force to contend with, challenging a mega-billion corporation. Darwinian capitalism. Adam Smith.

But I'm not using those lessons just for theorizing about the future, I am betting on it.
    Bill Gates

Bill Gates, strategic intelligence is masterful. Napoleon. Challenges the US government. Worth Billions. Hard Drive. Corporate Capitalism

Linux on the server side and MS on the desktop side. I don't see it changing anytime soon. All the apps are Windows based ... unless the market is big enough, no companies are willing to spend $$ into developing the same apps for Linux. It's a Catch-22 situation and won't be resolved anytime in the future.

    As someone stated.

Bill Gates(windows) for my personal use(desktop-work-gaming-coding) Mr Linus(Linux) for hosting my web sites on linux powered machines.

At this stage, windows does what it does and I am happy with that, Linux also does what it does and I am happy with it, but no way in hell is Linux ready to be used as a desktop platform for the majority of the users, Ubuntu is quite nice but it has to beat Mac before it can even share the same breathing space as windows.

The problem is microsoft only get where they are because of their OS being pre packaged on PC's... it's the norm... i love linux, but people are often too scared to use it

There is no comparison. I use both Linux as well as Windows. It's my opinion, but I like Linux a lot more.

I have always liked linux more when I would use it up to 4 years ago, but it was not all that practical for many desktop functions and the distributions never configured it very well. I understand that has been changing with Ubuntu, but I got pissed off enough with Windoze that I got a mac...I have never looked back...its like a most usable linux. I don't really have to ever spend any time learning how it works, and has saved me more time than the extra amount it cost me.

are you linux guys frustrated that Bill owns the software world, and that's why you're so "hungry" for topics like this? :D

I asked my girlfriend if she'd ever use Linux.. and this was our basic conversation:

Me: "Hey babe.. I'm coming over to work at your house today.."
Her: "Oh alright.. see you in a bit..."
    ... *drives to house*
    ... *sets up work environment*
Her: ".. Why doesn't your desktop look so different?"
Me: "Oh, I use Linux for development stuff.. it's OpenSource :)"
    ... *few minutes of paused..*
Her: "Linux...? Isn't that a virus? We installed McAffee on my dads new vista to get rid of that I thought?"
Me: "... maybe we should see other people.."

linux needs to learn how to appeal to non-techie community, only than will it than gain market from widows user. Though it still control its niche user, the techie user. For MAC, they found their user niche and exploit it and look at them now all smile :)
