Is someone at the plex trying to make a political statement? I was just wondering if this was a deliberate omission. --Mark
They must be too hungover from partying on Sir Doyle's birthday and they forgot to switch over the GIFs? Yea, that is a pretty sorry omission whether you approve of the current war or not.
Wow - that is sad. I just tried several searches to give them the benefit of the doubt ("memorial day", etc), but nothing triggered a new logo.
Here are some of the recent holidays they've displayed logos for this year... Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Birthday - May 22, 2006 Mother's Day - May 14, 2006 Persian New Year - March 21, 2006 St. Patrick's Day - March 17, 2006 Birthday of Percival Lowell - March 13, 2006 I don't care what your politics are, I think this is a insulting to those who have served our country...
Just another good reason to start looking for Google's replacement. Hmmmm... I am thinking that Google==AOL in terms of its evolution. The market is over saturated with Google and the only way to go is down...
You think that is bad? Then check this out, google is now censoring political viewpoints in google news.
Theres 2 things you don't talk about in public: politics and religion http://www.michnews.com/artman/publish/article_12905.shtml ^that article almost made me fall out of my seat laughing.
Its really sad that Google doesn't value the sacrifices that were made to allow them to exist. *If* there was a viable search alternative out there this would have p*ssed me off enough to switch. If I want a political statement I'll watch CNN International. Pathetic. Simply pathetic. I should risk my ass and launch a Google Disses Memorial Day site. Who would help me get it ranked for keywords Memorial Day?
I was going to say that Google is International and that these types of holidays are celebrated around the world on different days... but they decorated for Canada's (and other commonwealth countries') Remembrance Day: http://goingglobal.corante.com/img/google_ca.jpg I'm guessing their cartoon artists took the long weekend.
I'm not a veteran, but my dad was, and I agree that this sucks. I've had to put up with G's ugly-ass color schemes messing up my sites on all the other holidays and then they just omit this one completely? I was going to give them the benefit of the doubt because it's only an American holiday, but C. Szeler pointed out that they did something on Remembrance Day. I'll donate a few "Memorial Day" anchor text links if someone really does want to make a site about it.
OMG wouldn't that be ironic? If in fact this is a deliberate omission, to do that and then take the day off to *honor* those who died fighting for their country would be a double slap in the face. Ok, I am frustrated enough to go write in my blog now.
I gave you a dig and added a coment. You can read my full rant on my blog at http://www.thorschrock.com. Ok, I had better go make some money now...
I Dugg, but you might have gotten more attention by just pointing to Google, rather than a blog entry. You know how those whacky Diggers are - they will try and mod it down.
Sad that Google chose not to design for Memorial day. I am so shock, even my directory has an American flag. Why not they?!!
It is a real schem, even dough it is not an international holiday, but the US Army Support the whole world when they needed it, they risked their lives about people from around the globe, all the time, not only for the US.
Wish I could say I was surprised by no logo. To GeorgeB and the rest of the veterans reading this, thanks so much.
