In the great depression of the early 1930s movie attendance dropped only 30% from 90 million per week to 60 million per week. I'm not saying movie attendance will go up, but it won't be hurt as much as other inductries. And they just won't buy popcorn and drinks. People will eat out less (as has already been seen in the low sitdown rates at restaurants this past summer), but people will still want to get out, and a movie, even at $10.50 a ticket, is still cheaper than many other entertainments. Tickets will probably drop in price to $8, while film companies just won't greenlight the multimillion dollar budget pictures. I suspect people will also drop the $100 a month cable bill and watch their old DVDs and VHS tapes. Of course, we didn't have YouTube or nearly as much PayPerView in the last major recession as we have today. So we'll see. I read in the Wall Street Journal the other day that some people are switching from cable to movie and TV downloads, YouTube, Hulu, and Vudu already. Your point about families is accurate, but more tickets are sold to individuals than families. Plus marriage has been on the decline since 1996, and people are waiting longer to get married. Additionally, the movie industry predominantly targets 18 to 24 year olds who tend to be single and carefree with their income.
yes all very sad at the moment. At least im young and not close to retirement ! Have lost about 25% in the last year . Im sure others are worse of tho.
This reminds me of a prediction I read about titled World war III. It predicted a world recession where the US and Europe did not recover financially from. It is not an actual war where shots are fired but a trade war. Anyhoo the upshot is India and China become the new world economic super powers and the west end up poor, not third world poor but poor by our current standards. Hope it's not true otherwise the next 20 years aren't going to be much fun. Now how about someone giving us some positive news.

Basically, all war comes down to economics: Who can make the best, the most, the fastest, the cheapest. For example, the US built 2,580 Liberty (cargo) ships from 16 shipyards in WW2. Each yard was turning out one ship per month. One Liberty ship was completed in 5 days. Normally it would take a shipyard almost a year to complete one ship.
Personally i think e-bays slumping... i mean it's saturated, and if people flock to it, it's going to saturate it even more and put people off further... i think people will use sites like gocompare and moneysupermarket to find bargains, but they'll look closer to home for a lot more bargains
I think many more people will get excited about running an home based business. They are repeatably seeing the signs that we have to be able to control our money were it comes from and not depend on others to take care of us. I think many people will look for things that stop them from driving looking for ways to make money online will increase. People will hopefully spend less on useless crap and junk that we buy for the sake of buying. And hopefully many people world around will find new ways to use no gas and stick to the necesities like organic products and foods helping the environment and slowing the world down a bit.
Reverse mortgages will finally get noticed by seniors. Coupons will be huge! Any alternative financing that's still out there will do well if they can survive government scrutiny. Making money will always be a hot topic.
I heard Oct. is generally the best month for the stock market. But many experts believe it still has some to drop. The thing that may effect e-commerce the most is inflation & changed taxes. I haven't looked into the subject very deeply though.
Money lending site that the owner provide a place to let borrower and lender meet and from there owner charge a fee
Now it's China. They created all of your electronic products. Look at your handphones or laptops, see the components individually, all are "made in China" although the brand is Sony or T-Mobile. I've never seen a single thing that's made in Japan or USA. China created it all and when they exported the goods, the brand (sony, blackberry, etc.) makes it expensive. India might become one of the best too, they are doing good in computer and internet things.

Blogging...yeah, that's it. People will be convinced to spend just because others write blogs. The above reads so much like an infomercial that it should be in another category...

ok so now the main alternative for everyone is to step into the make money online niche and teach each others how to make money online. They teach because it's what make them the most money, right? Nothing else will improve during recession?
