Most likely they'll just be ignored.

Though the claim, often made on here, that nothing someone else does about your site can harm it, is a bit ingenuous. Google wants to serve up relevant results to searchers - if there's something about your site that makes it appear 'less relevant', it's results in serps will reflect that.

No you likely wouldn't be penalized. It is a bigger problem when your site links back to a link farm.

I site cannot get penalized for any backlinks. The links on your pages matter. Anyone can place your site's link on spam sites, especially your competitors and google know about this. Google ignore such links. The important thing is to keep your site clean from spam links.

Make sure you don't link back to any questionable sites. If your outgoing links are all good quality links then you won't be hurt by someone else linking to you. However, if you've already got outgoing links to a bad neighborhood so your link profile is "on the edge" in Google's eyes, then the addition of the new links coming into you could tip you to the dark side of Google's algo.

Bottom line, it's who you link to that matters...combined with your overall link profile that Google looks at to determine if you're trying to game the SERPs.

Agreed. Keep your site clean and avoid linking adult contents, gambling sites from your site because you have a control over it.

I believe Google are smart enough, and wont allow you to hurt your competitive websites by linking to them from any link farm websites.. so it wont hurt your website in the first place ;)

It has been a unwritten rule by Google not the bust you for what a competitor could do to your site.

To be part of a link farm, you must have pages with links on your site to be a member of a link farm. No pages, no links = No problem from Google.

Google will only bust you for what is on your site or what you are doing on your site.

Unless you are linking back to those site you are on a safe side. The links from link farms are not counted. No harm yet no good.

Don't worry, as long as you don't have link from your site to those farms then you should be ok.
