If you have done everything you say you have done, your site should have been crawled and indexed by now. If you go to google and type in yousitename.com and don't see it then it sounds like the domain name has been banned and you need to ask for reinclusion. Once you bookmark a site it doesn't take more than a few days at most for google to index it.

As someone already stated, submitting a site is a waste of time. It is better for Google to find your site itself, besides, Google can't credit you PageRank if it hasn't spotted any sites that link to you yet! Sitemaps can help expedite things, but traditionally how you get a site listed in Google is simply linking to it from other sites that are already listed. Google follows the links, assigns your site PR, and presto! The more links, and often especially the higher the PR of the sites you are linking from, the better/faster.

Given this was a previously owned site, there is also the possibility that the site got banned by misdeeds of the previous owner. If you have tried everything else, and you're not showing up AT ALL (not even with site: ), then you can always submit for reconsideration option for banned sites in Google webmaster tools.

I posted the link on a blogspot blog, with any luck it's in the search engines in a few hours. I was trying to get a one-page subdomain indexed for weeks, it might be coincidence but once I listed it on an indexed blogspot blog, a few hours later the subdomain was indexed.

I don't know why this is happening, but yesterday I got a completely new blogspot blog indexed in 2 hours, so I might be able to help.

All I did was wrote one opening article, pinged 92 sites using pingler.com, stumbled the site and dugg the site - and I was indexed - have you tried using a ping service to ping sites?

Afaict the previous owner did get some complaints about forum spamming, there is a 'flag_user' url indexed in google aimed at one of his accounts, so it seems his linkcampaigns pissed people off.

If you look at this sort of pages,
    www.wheatnoodles.org/x/archives/000545.html
and a number of others, including pages marked as potentially dangerous to your pc, then you can imagine the site ending up banned.
