Never Use “We”

    Thought of the Day

Never use “We”. Never use the personal pronouns “I,”, “we,” “me,” “us,” or “our” in your website, your advertising, packaging or anywhere else. “We” means nothing.

News Flash: customers don’t care about you. As awful as that sounds, that is true. They only care about themselves. In a recent survey it was found that copy written in the third person is more objective and not as self serving as copy written in the first person.

You wouldn’t put “Me” on your business card and omit your name. So, don’t do it on your website or anywhere else.

depends on where and how you use it. on about us, portfolio page, etc it is perfect to use we because customers want to know who are we and what we have done in this line so far

Nice tip. I have also read that in other articles. And it's really a must not to use those pronouns in promoting your website.

I think it is true except "in your website"

I think it depends on the type of site. I will take johnchow and shoemoney as an example. They are using "I" in their site.

If it is a product review site. I think we may also use something like I or we if you would like to give visitors an impression that the articles are written by someone who have used the product.

And if it is a site selling things such as handmade handicraft made by me myself. I think it is a must to use the word "I"

Yet I will agree that it may not be a good idea to use such pronouns in advertising campaigns.

it really depends on the site..

if its a blog why not bother to use first person pronouns..

but if its a business site make it more professional the best possible way

It's all about what the customer gets from it. Always tell your clients what THEY get from it not what YOU get from it, it's as simple as that in the end

Do you mean like "customers get 100% free..." rather than "you will get 100% free..." ?

We think that you may be speculating, and I have to say ,we talked it over about you ..and we believe that this may be a factor that depends on the context and site.

Tom Shmoe thought that Johnken0123 may be speculating , "Shmoe Inc. discussed the nature of the claims made by johnken0123" stated Tom Shmoe, Shmoe Inc. President for the past 5 years. "and Shmoe Inc realized that this factor would depend on context and the site"

sounding as if a 3rd party reviewing your site and whatever else..may sound more 'official' as by the comparisons of 'offcial' speak .. that is used by corporates and major media. Because it sounds as if someone else is taking the time to cover you, talk about you ..therefore maybe you or your site is important somehow , enough to be covered by these people..whoever they are. :D

sort of agree on websites. on blogs though it's fine, blogs work best when they're personal.
