Google Books in Serps - WTF

Discussion in 'Google' started by mdvaldosta, Oct 6, 2008.

Doing a few rounds of searches, I notice Google Books showing up strong in many search results. When I say strong, I mean coming up TWICE in the top 5-10 results for many highly competitive searches. This is low... really low. Worse than Wikipedia raping results for most every query. /rant

Or maybe they're plugging they're own services in a non-natural manner. They certainly don't have the backlinks to rank that way... they're friggen sales pages.

google sending traffic to more of their properties... what's surprising about that? it will just get worse and worse until another real player enters search.

They are also mixing in Google news results and youtube/google video results. It shows that Google is now officially the next MicroSoft. They are more money hungry than ever and are willing to walk over anyone to get that money. I hope someone can seriously compete with them soon.

WoW this is some BS I sure hope someone challenges them to keep them on top of things. I'm really tired of random youtube videos topping the results as well.

There is some merit to this suggestion. Usually results I find in Google books are dead on for what I'm looking for. Also when you consider that the books are unique and mostly original, they aren't throwing up results from a myriad of scraper sites. If the info is what I'm looking for, I don't care if it comes from Google Books or not, in fact if it does come from a published work, I put a bit more faith in it.

What's so bad about it.. Google is the site of highest authorities, any sub-sites of google are also of high authority and high (or highest) PR, so it's normal for them to rank high
