More People are selling links on sites with fake PR here in DP. I may not harm your ranking or SEO process. However, you will be wasting your money. So, for folks who are trying to purchase link in order to boost the pagerank or SERPs. Be careful of fake PR sites!!!
pr shouldn't be the primary thing to look for anyway. quality and site relativity should be there's always going to be scams about, unfortunately
You should never buy a website purely based on pagerank. Pagerank shown on all fake (and real) websites is out dated, unless Google happened to update the Pagerank at the exact time you visited. They only update a few times per year. If you base your decision on pagerank alone (or base your decision to a large degree on it) then it's like making a decision on buying a business based on the turnover figures from 12 months ago. Sure the business may still be in as good shape now that it was then, but equally it could be in a far worse position. Same with pagerank. What your seeing is what the website was "rated" by Google whenever they last processed it (could be months!). Summary: If you are visiting the website now and looking at the nice looking green bar in the bottom right corner of your browser, it may be months out of date. It's far better to take the time to research the website yourself. For example use a site line dnscoop.com (I have no affiliation to that). This shows you the true pagerank, and also the age of the domain, and the number of backlinks. It also gives you a one click button to see the backlinks in yahoo, which is very useful. Take the time to look at the links, as this gives you a good idea on the backlink campaigns the current owners employed. Also many of the websites linking will show you stats like the date/time the linking account was created, etc which can help you when making a decision. e.g. When the site has suddenly gained 1000 backlinks, or they have been increasing at a steady rate for the past 12 months. Like anything it's a case of being careful. But with a bit of basic detective work, you will dramatically increase your chances of spotting a dud deal.
Tim has given some sound advice in his post. I would also advice people to use archive.org's way back machine and check how the site has looked in past and determine if this was an old/parked domain with PR.
*shrugs* If someone values a website's PR, I'm sure they take the 10 seconds to validate it somewhere.
I don't think it's even possible to fake the real PR of the site with the Google toolbar. I know there's little images of fake PR but is it possible to fake your PR?
If a person purchase link then he/she must check the website's backlinks and other things and judge whether the page is beneficial for his/her website or not.
It supposes that this tool gives you the real PR (detecting the fake PR if exists)...has anybody use it?
